McLaren 720S Leaked!
McLaren’s replacement for it’s current Super Series cars, which include the 650S and 675LT, will be officially revealed at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show later on this March. This is no secret, as we have seen spy shots of the new car testing. However, now a new leaked image has surfaced on the internet to give us an even better glimpse of it.

Dubbed the 720S, or P14 internally,, the 650S’ replacement was shown to potential customers at an event months before it’s official public debut. Usually at these events, clients are usually made to sign a non-disclosure agreement or told verbally not to reveal images of the car so that this sort of thing doesn’t happen. But lo and behold, here we are with a production (or near production) spec 720S.
From the picture, you can see how McLaren’s design has evolved from the last generation of cars. Remember, this is an all new car developed from the ground up. While the 650S was essentially an updated 12C. The 720S has some incredible body work with those large door creases and tear-drop shaped cabin profile. This coppery-orange paint is a great choice as it accentuates the impressive body work.
Details on the new McLaren 720S are scarce. We do know that it will have, as the name suggests, around 720 horsepower.

Dodge Challenger SRT Demon
American muscle has traditionally been defined as any vehicle wearing a badge from the “Big 3” and is better at the straight quarter mile than through any corners. The Dodge Hellcat brothers, the Challenger and Charger, are the modern examples of this definition. With a ridiculous 707 horsepower on tap from a supercharger 6.2L Hemi V8, the Hellcat can light up its rear tires into a cloud of smoke with the slightest movement from your right ankle. Now any rational person would think that the Hellcat is already overpowered, which would be correct. But Dodge doesn’t seem to be rational. Dodge seems to have gone mental and announced the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon to be unveiled at April’s New York Auto Show.
Judging by the naming structure, the Hellcat is the Demon’s pet. Dodge wants us to know the Hellcat was just a house kitty for the real tire killer. The car that will no doubt most likely try to kill it’s owners as soon as they go near the throttle.
Dodge isn’t letting out too many details at the moment, but they made it clear that this will be a rather focused car. Timothy Kuniskis, head FCA’s North American brands, as gone on record saying “The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is conceived, designed and engineered for a subculture of enthusiasts who know that a tenth is a car and a half second is your reputation”. So yeah, the Demon won’t be a corner-carving track-focused car. But it does promise to be ridiculously fast in a straight line. If the Hellcat has “only” 707 horsepower, expect the Demon to pack even more under the hood.

First Look: 2018 Ford Mustang
Ford dropped the curtains on the freshly face-lifted Ford Mustang. This will be the first refresh since the introduction of this sixth generation’s chassis in 2014. Although the exterior looks like a minor facelift, it promises to pack a lot more tech underneath the fresh sheetmetal.
The biggest news is that the 2018 Ford Mustang gains magnetorheological adaptive suspension, known as MagneRide. It will be available as part of the performance packs on both the EcoBoost and the GT trims. This will make the Mustang more competitive, as the Chevrolet Camaro has had active magnetic suspension since 2015. Ford has said themselves that the new Mustang GT with the performance pack is better than the last generation Mustang Boss 302.
Ford has also announced the end of the V6 Mustang. This only makes sense since the take-rate was only about 15% of total sales and the 2.3L EcoBoost four-banger makes more power and uses less fuel. Moreover, the V8 now has a dual injection system (Port and Direct) that is also found in the new F150 Raptor. This allowed Ford to raise the compression ratio to 12.0:1 of the V8, which helps with both power and fuel economy. Coupled to these powerplants is the option of the new 10-speed transmission Ford co-developed with GM. It promises decreased shift times and can apparently cope with more torque than the outgoing 6-speed automatic. Fret not, there is also the option of a 6-speed manual, now with a stronger twin-disc clutch and a dual-mass flywheel.
All-in-all the new Mustang looks like a great improvement over the outgoing models. Personally, I think the refreshed exterior looks sharp, but I’ve heard some negative feedback from the automotive press already. Nonetheless, the 2018 Mustang is as competitive as ever.

Caterham Thinks of Building Modern Car

Most vehicles on the marketplace are designed, built, and powered by modern technology. This only logical. As the times move on, so should the technology and designs. Nevertheless, there are some that think that older is better. Case in point: Caterham. The British manufacturer insists on soldiering on the ancient Lotus 7. To give you a sense on how ancient it really is, it started production about a decade before man made it to the moon. However, it seems that the times are catching up over at Caterham as they consider doubling their model line up to 2.

In an interview with Autocar UK, Caterham CEO Graham MacDonald revealed that he would like to not only build a second car, they would like to build a modern conventional car with a closed cockpit and shape. The current batch of Caterhams take their shape from the old Lotus 7, which is as bare bones as possible, without even a roof. This second vehicle would be an addition to the line-up, as Caterham says that they would like to continue building the 7.
Although they would love to see this second car come into fruition soon, it seems that they do not have the necessary capital for it. MacDonald indicated that a joint-venture would be the best option to make it happen. This makes sense, as Caterham is a very small company that churns out only a miniscule amount of vehicles a year.
This news is not a complete surprise though. Back in 2014, Caterham teamed up with Renault’s Alpine brand and revealed the C120 concept. Although the concept was wonderful, nothing else concrete came out of that relationship.
So far no manufacturer has stepped up to the plate. I can only dream of some of the amazing cars that could come out of relationships with current sports car leaders. Imagine a Porsche-Caterham co-developed sports car? Or possibly keep it British and make a lightweight Caterham-Aston Martin V12 powered rocket! I really hope that something does come to market, the world needs more Caterhams.
